The Bow Shackle G209 is a metal connecting device primarily used for lifting and towing operations. It consists of a bow-shaped body, a bolt pin and a nut, and is manufactured from materials such as high-strength alloy steel and stainless steel. The surface is treated with hot-dip galvanising or electroplating to enhance corrosion resistance.
Structural Composition
The bow shackle is assembled from a shackle body and a pin. Its shape resembles that of a bow and arrow, hence the name ‘bow shackle’; some customers also refer to it as a ‘horseshoe shackle’ or a ‘Type B shackle’. The bow design helps to distribute the load and is manufactured using a one-piece casting process. It is forged from a single piece of alloy steel; common materials include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and high-strength steel.

Usage Guidelines
- Selection Criteria: Select the tonnage strictly in accordance with the WLL marked on the body; overloading and the fabrication of non-standard welded shackles are strictly prohibited;
- Load Requirements: Tensile force must act along the central axis of the shackle body; single-point lateral or oblique pulling is prohibited (lateral loading will halve the load-bearing capacity); the angle between multiple slings must be kept within 120°;
- Installation Guidelines: Tighten the threaded pin fully; in environments subject to prolonged vibration, use the bolted version with a split pin to prevent loosening; suspend the sling from the curved bow, and do not allow it to pile up on the pin;
- Inspection and Scrapping Criteria: Scrap immediately if cracks, plastic deformation, pin wear exceeding 10% of the original diameter, or deep pitting due to corrosion are observed; welding repairs to shackles damaged by heat are strictly prohibited.
Scope of Application
Bow shackles are primarily used in lifting, towing and rescue operations. In lifting operations, they are commonly used as connecting components in conjunction with slings, tow straps, hoists and chain slings. They serve a similar connecting function in towing operations. In rescue operations, the shackle is commonly referred to as a connecting ring and serves as an essential connecting device between wire ropes, between a wire rope and a vehicle body, between a wire rope and a pulley, and between a rigid towing frame and a vehicle body.
